Bedford Falls / The Enablers - Bedford Falls / The Enablers – split 7” (Newest Industry)
By submitted

A great seve inch by 2 fine bands on as far as I know the best UK punk label my a fuckin mile – what a combination. You should be salivating already. I got this (I thnk) when I met Dave Monks at the Enablers show at Lancaster’s Yorkshire House last year, when I got so drunk I danced single-handedly to BCS. It was a great night, and great to meet Dave and buy him lager all night (heh heh) but 2 particluar things stick in my mind abart that gig. Firstly after the BCSU gig I marched up to one of the band and said that I recognised the opening lines of one of their songs was actually REMARKABLY like a Superchunk track (off no pcy for kitty I think) abart ‘ . . . . tie a rope to the back of the bus etc etc’ – and he was really excited and said something along the lines of (but in an American/English accent ‘fack me, no-one has ever mentioned that to me before, we have been playing this song for ages, you are right, I know the singer of (all of a sudden Rox starts flaggelating himself like Torquemade and and grovelling at the very mention of his name) and I said ‘I love that line from your song .. I am gonna use it’ to which xxx go right ahead. Second thing was I was chatting to one of the Enabler guys (bassist I think) after I had got on the stage and shouted some backing vox with him. He said ‘I didn’t expect to see a Weakerthans t-shirt here’ (the t-shirt in question was obtained at The Weakerathns 1st ever UK gig in the UK and has a block image of a falling cowboy in tangerine on the front) to which I replied do u like them ? I do, and I can make myself cry just by listening to them in my car, he then grinned and thrust forth his forearm which had the very same image tattooed on it – quality – a friend for life. Anyhow back to the 7”, Sweetest Science bt BF is BF at their best – punchy, entertaining, great riffs from a sound and born back in 1995 – love it. The second track is maudling, like they are on a lot of their other tracks – so it’s sort of Bob Dylan with clear nasal packages and a a bunch of musoc from Cardiff circa 2006. Of The Enablers tracks ‘Bitter End’ is the best of the two. (8/10)
