howl in the typewriter.
GIRL- this song sounded like it could have been lifted off THE CURES- head on the door album. A slow song that, just when you expect it to, never ups the tempo. still its a decent enough song with good lyrics. 7/10. RESPECTABOLLOCKS- repetItive noise for 50 seconds then someone says bollocks. 4/10
WALTER, FRANK AND TOM - with a dirge like synthesiser background, w.f.&t takes awhile to get going. it has various sampled drums, spoken word etc. not put together in any real order which is probably a good thing. oh and i think walter is a window cleaner.6/10 THE PAY OFF- the strongest of HITT numbers on this compilation. it reminds me of EUROPEAN SUN by the VELVET UNDERGROUND. I dont know why because it sounds nothing like it. This is a good upbeat song with deadpan delivEry. 8/10 YXIMALLOO PETERS BACK- yximalloo contribute two versions of peters back on this album. Both pretty similar but i leant towards the earlier one. a slow song, with a
mish-mash of sounds. good guitars and percussion with quirky vocals. EXCELLENT. 9/10
HADDENHAM ONE 40 MILES OF DICKSON ROAD- 2 minutes of techno. It has lyrics on the sleevenotes, but strangely not used. Still it scores points for being named after a local thoroughfare. 5/10 IN A NUTSHELL- indeed the hills are alive with the sound of techno. Not my cup of tea. 3/10 TAURUS BOARD
SPEAK TO THE HAND- more techno. This is more relaxing and ambient than the HADDENHAM ONE. Six minutes of theroputic easy listening. 7/10 PILZIN SOX ALICE FLOATS AWAY- a slow trance like record. very agreeable occasional vocals from BINX. I think BINX has a great voice and should be used more.
6/10 LITTERBUG JENNY SPARKLES- a strong song from the SPEAKING THROUGH THE GAPS lp.
Powerfull backing vocals from KARIMBA. A very likeable melody. 8/10 SUBHUMAN SCUM- another track from STTG LP . Not as good as JENNY SPARKLES but still a very decent effort. tight guitars and percussion. 7/10 ROOHMANIA NINE AND A HALF MINUTES- I don’t want to be too pedantic but it was only nine minutes and twenty seconds. Having said that I thought this was rather good. A fine selection of vocal and drum samples with a good beat and rhythms. It did not make me want to dance but nothing ever does.7/10 STREAM ANGEL SOME STRANGE FABRIC- Did not get this one. Six minutes of background noise with a bloke talking randomly with retarded speech. 2/10 LENINS VIRULENT MUSCLE
MUMMY- Slow song with powerful percussion. SISTA FRANCHESCHA delivers good, humourous ( I think) lyrics. A good effort. well done. 8/10 PLASTIC BAGS- the second offering from L.V.M. is another high quality track. A punchy number lambasting the oil rich, environmentally unfriendly carriers. Once again SISTA FRANCHESCHA excels vocally. 8/10 UNIT CIRCLE OF SEVENS- instrumental with what sounds like heavy use of the xylophone. Not overly exciting. 4/10 WHY I AM NOT EVERYONE- by far UNITS best effort on this compilation. An imposing rant about individuality with a good, dark background beat. Plenty of German vocals about building towns and cities with the working class. (I think) 8/10 ROCKET NUMBER 9- spoken text over xylophone based prog rock- cosmic. Goes on way too long. 4/10 (Derek Twat)
