Zounds - Go All The Way
By Editor Blackpool Rox II (2005) submitted

I do like nice surprises. Whilst I was getting my head around Pericles and Odysseus the Swapmeet kid ventured over to the 1 in 12 to watch Doom and Extinction of Mankind. He returned to the flatland with this new Zoundz ep in his gentle hand – and only £2.00 .. quality. 3 tracks served up by Steve Lake’s new line up (Capt. Lake on vox and bass, with Dr Doom on drums and The Prof on gtr) his latest incarnation of my personal faves from the early 80’s. My personal life story is mapped out by little vignettes surrounding the purchasing of all my Zoundz records – all have their own quirky little history, but I don’t have time to go into them all here. First impressions of this record are that it is a little heavier in production and busier in musical texture than older Zoundz material, but still with the distinctively pleading vocal line. Subject matter is US / GB imperialism. The cover has Uncle Sam and Lady Britannia sat atop a large forearm – maybe liberty, or the iron fist which has cut through any semblance of a velvet glove. Track 1 is Go All The Way (for the USA) the usual suspects being Exxon, Worldcom, Enron etc. Track 2 is War Fever a shorter affair lending a little to the War track on the Can’t Cheat Karma ep. Track 3 is Kamp Amerika which is about American cultural imperialism and is more in the vain of ‘Curse of’ track “Did he jump or was he pushed” and the “running through the city” track on the Mclibel benefit ep from a few years ago (quite a few years ago), and this is probably my favourite of the three, possibly because Lawrence Wood on gtr and keyboards adds a little suspense into the proceedings. Well worth a purchase, it’s not on a label, although it was recorded at the 1 in 12 so u can get it there and probably from Steve’s website (7/10)
